Shems Friedlander on Muzaffer Efendi (English)

The biography of Muzaffer Ozak Efendi, was the final work of prolific author Shems Friedlander, who returned to his Lord on November 22nd 2022 at the age of 82. Shems Friedlander found the path of Islam through Muzaffer Efendi and followed his path for fifty years. Author, publisher, artist, photographer, graphic designer, filmmaker and educator, Shems Friedlander left behind an important body of work. His books included the classic photo essay, 'The Whirling Dervishes', the seminal best-sellers 'When You Hear Hoofbeats Think of Zebras' and 'The 99 Names of Allah,' up two his memoir 'Winter Harvest' many books on Mevlana Jalalud'din Rumi. Michael Sugich and Shems Friedlander were friends for over forty years and neighbors for the last seven years. In late August 2022 Sugich recorded what would be Shems Friedlander's last interview.
